<正>Sikkim is one of the smallest and hyper-diversity states of the Indian union,which is also bryologically one of the better explored regions of the country.The diverse geomorphological and climatic conditions met within the state have adequately expressed itself in a very rich diversity of plants,liverworts being the no exceptions.East Sikkim - one of the four districts of the State,is situated between 27°9'-27°25'N latitudes and 88°27'-88°56'E longitudes.Spreading across an area of ca 954 sq.km with the altitude varying from 500 - 6600 msl,the district shares its boundary with Bhutan in the South-east and China in the North-East,whereas it is bounded by the South district of the State in the West and North district in the North.The southern boundary of the district is marked by the Indian State of West Bengal.
