Cyber-society-Females-Marginalized or Not——An Analysis of Women’s Social Status in the Cyber Space
Significantly, the modern communication technology---Internet itself sees the enormous positive impacts exerted upon the human society, which is now marked as a cyber society, particularly in terms of cyber democracy. As one important dimension on the democratic scale, women's social status as apposed to the men's in the cyber society has achieved more study concerns among both feminists and non-feminists.Then has the new technology-Internet made any change of the traditional social relationship between women and men in Cyber society? Personally, cyber society remains male-oriented,and women are relatively marginalized.Actually, the question of how women remain as a weak gender is more discussed than of why it is so among scholars and feminists in a profound sense.Although there is reason analysis conducted by researchers like Spencer,Wang, they made their studies from such perspectives as social gender structure,market,technology-control.and this paper, however, endeavors to discuss why women still remain as a weak gender in cyber society from two perspectives, one perspective of information production -an analysis of encoding and discourse power in cyber-society,and the other perspective of the engendered technology-a discussion of women's conventionally psychological perception on technology and its using---fear and insecurity.
