Study on proteins and the resistance to high salinity in Antarctic ice microalgae Chlamydomonas sp.
<正>Antarctic ice microalga Chlamydomonas sp. can survive and thrive in channels or tubs containing high salinity in Antarctic ice layer. The comparison of growth in different salinity showed that Chlamydomonas sp. could survived in the salinity of 132‰. Survival in extreme conditions requires a complex suite of physiological and metabolic adaptations. However, it is not known what initial defense mechanisms in protein level occur in response to high salinity. In this study, global - expression profiling of proteins in response to high - salinity stress (99‰) was analyzed by SDS - PAGE, two - dimensional gel electrophoresis and image analysis. SDS - PAGE analysis showed that the density of 2 bands (26 and 36 kD) decreased obviously. The soluble proteins in Chlamydomonas sp. were compared by 2 - D gel electrophoresis, and the synthesis of 8 protein spots was found disappeared and 18 decreased after the shock of high salinity. In addition, 19 protein spots were enhanced or induced, among which only one new peptides (51 kD) appeared. They might be correlated with the resistance to high salinity.
