Methanol Decomposition over Copper Catalysts

  A series of Cu/Ce_xZn catalysts with different ceria loadings(x) was prepared through the deposition precipitation method.Prepared catalysts were physically characterized by techniques of ICP,BET, XRD and H_2-TPR.The H_2-TPR study found that reducibility of CuO crystallites dispersed on Cu/Zn catalyst was enhanced substantially by the ceria incorporation.Catalytic activity of Cu/Zn toward reactions of decomposition of methanol(DM) and partial oxidation of methanol(POM) was also profoundly promoted by ceria.The promotion is attributed to the enhanced redox ability of CuO.With an optimized ceria promotion of x = 20%,promoted POM displayed a high methanol conversion(C_(MeOH)~90%) and a high hydrogen selectivity(Y_(H2)~1.84%) at a low reaction temperature of 160℃.At high ceria loadings,however,C_(MeOH) and S_(H2) were simultaneously declined due to a deep oxidation of H_2.……
