Study on Diverse Colletotrichum Species Associated with Pear Anthracnose in China

  Colletotrichum spp.are highly variable in species and corresponding disease symptoms toward pear fruits and leaves in China.Since 2007,pear anthracnose was increasingly occurred in many cultivars with a widespread in distribution,resulting in bad quality of pear fruits and substantial yield loss for famers.To determine the diversity of the causing agents in genus Colletotrichum and related disease symptoms on pear fruits and leaves,we collected 319 samples with three types of anthracnose symptoms(normal anthracnose necrosis,off-white necrosis and black spot with small diameter less than1 mm) from Pyrus pyrifolia,P.bretschneideri and P.communis from 2013 to 2017 in 7 provinces of China.Through isolation and purification,we finally gained 505 strains.The morphological characters of all strains were observed and compared,and multi-locus phylogenetic analyses(ITS,ACT,CAL,CHS-1,GAPDH,and TUB2) were performed on 82 representative strains.Twelve Colletotrichum species were identified,including nine well-characterized species(C.aenigma,C.conoides,C.fructicola,C.gloeosporioides,C.siamense,C.fioriniae,C.citricola,C.karstii,and C.cliviae) and three novel species.C.conoides,C.siamense,C.citricola,C.karstii,and C.cliviae were reported for the first time from pear.Pathogenicity testing showed that all species can infect pear leaves.Notobly,C.fructicola was the only pathogen to cause black spot with diameter less than 1 mm.……
