Phylogenetic Study of Valsa Species from Malus pumila in Shanxi Province

  To determine the pathogens caused apple Valsa canker from the apple planting areas in Shanxi province.Morphology,phylogeny and pathogenicity were integrated to evaluate the 78 isolates from 8 apple planting areas of Shanxi Province.The results showed that Valsa spp.from Shanxi Province belongs to V.mali and V.pyri.is the dominant species,located each apple planting areas in Shanxi Province,accounting for 58.97%of the total number of strains.The isolation rate of V.pyri was 100%in Jinbei apple planting area(Xinzhou,Shuozhou) of Shanxi province.Morphological study indicated that colony color of V.mali divided into yellow-brown colony and off white colony on PDA.Off white colony produced pycnidium on PDA after 4 day,with the size of 358.17 ~ 735.68μm.Yellow-brown colony don t produced pycnidiumon PDA.The colony color of V.pyri was milk-white colonyon PDA,produced pycnidiumon PDA after 3 day,with the size of 817.5 ~ 1 159.7 μm.Pathogenicity test showed that V.maliand V.pyri could cause apple Valsa canker.The disease spots of V.mali expanded twigs of apple trees at the temperatures of 4℃ and relative humidity 45%for 7 day,with the size of 5.8 cm.V.mali produced black pycnidium on twigs of apple trees after 15 day,with yellow spore horns.The disease spots of V.pyri slowly expanded twigs of apple trees,with the size of 2.8 cm.V.pyri produced off white pycnidium on twigs of apple trees after 10 day.……
