Fusarium graminearum FgPLC1 regulates growth,development,stress response,and pathogenicity

  Phospholipase C(PLC) is an important phospholipid hydrolase that plays critical roles in various cellular processes in eukaryotic cells.To date,little is known about the functions of PLC in morphogenesis and pathogenesis in Fusarium graminearum.We constructed deletion mutants for all six FgPLC genes in this study.The FgPLC1 deletion mutant(Δplc1) generated by gene replacement showed significant defects in hyphal growth,conidiation,sexual reproduction,pathogenicity,and responses to abiotic stresses.Furthermore,complementation of the Δplc1 mutant with the full-length FgPLC1 gene restored all the defects of the mutant.In addition,analysis of gene expression profile showed that deletion of the FgPLC1 gene altered the expression patterns of 1619 genes compared with the wild type strain.In contrast to theΔplc1 mutant,the deletion mutants of other five genes did not show aberrant phenotypic features including colony morphology and conidiation.Taken together,our results revealed the functions of FgPLC1 in F.graminearum biology and the potential applications of these findings in development of an effective FHB management protocol.……
