  Studies were undertaken to investigate the activity response of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) , glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione reductase (GR) and mercury reductase (MR) of Antarctic bacterium Pseudoalteromonas sp. NJ62 following exposure (when exposed) to HgCl2. SOD activity of Pseudoalteromonas sp. NJ - 62 which was identified as Mn - SOD increased when incubated with 5 μM Hg2 +. And a significant increase in the activities of GPx, GR and MR was observed after exposure to Hg2+. These antioxidant (antioxidant enzymes)responses may be used as biomarkers of oxidative stress induced by mercury pollutants in Antarctic ecosystems.……
