The Psychometric Properties of The Hong Psychological Reactance Scale and Their Implications for Persuasive Health Communication

  As an individual difference,reactance proneness is a useful and important way of segmenting audience in public health campaigns.The Hong Psychological Reactance Scale was developed to measure the individual difference in reactance proneness. Previous studies indicated that the scale has four factors and is multi-dimensional. Confirmatory factor analyses were performed to test the psychometric properties of the HPRS.This study also used both message-specific variables and individual difference variables to test the external consistency of the scale.Data from three independent samples(N=188,200,and 233)confirmed the four factors,but provided evidence that the scale is unidimensional at the second order.Implications for persuasive health communication were also discussed.……
