The Women's Counting Moments in Virginia Woolf's The Years

  This paper looks at three questions:whats the expression of private time in The Years? What s the infantile fixation ? And where is the ambivalence in women s resistance against social order reflected? Virginia Woolfs feminism is down-to-earth as well as strong.She does not make it appear as if men did not have to struggle through the Law of the Father,nor does she deny the privileges,sometimes provided by men,her female subjects are entitled to what facilitates their exploration of private time,nor does she idealize her characters by eliminating ambivalence.Instead,she makes it obvious that these upper middle-class women,having been daughters themselves,at times imitate the voice of the Father when speaking to the less privileged.……
